A group of 5 die-hard Sunderland fans are organising a sponsored C2C sponsored bike ride in 3 weeks and are looking for bikers to join then.
Over the weekend of July 21-23, they are hoping to raise £1,000+ for Charity. All monies raised going to the Grace House Appeal and Give4Strips.
We, at Give4Strips take great pride in accepting this donation, whatever it maybe and look to support the lads on their epic journey over 135miles. We are looking to supply the lads with a signed SAFC Shirt, for they can use to raise more funds.
From the highest peek of Keswick & Black Hill (that’s somewhere ‘uppa height between Garrigill and Allenheads) to the Sunny climates of Roker Beach the lads will undertake various road conditions including:
- Main Roads – 5 miles (Mainly short sections thru urban areas)
- Minor Roads – 70 miles (Quiet, country roads)
- Cyclepaths/Off Road – 61 miles (Disused railway lines etc)
No doubt they will pass through some lovely scenic villages including Cockermouth, Keswick and the Lake District, Allenheads and Alston on route to Sunderland, and top up (with beer of course), at 1 or 2 “on-route” watering holes as well as the obligatory stop for overnight accommodation.
Cycling over 7 hours a day (estimated 65 – 75 miles) requires a lot of determination and strength, as well as encouragement from each other. We hope to meet them on the Beach at Roker on Sunday July 23, sometime around 4:00pm.
There will be a party for all riders and their family and friends (except those that need their bed – Chappers!!) … A BIG thanks to all that are entering this C2C, and all those that (I’m sure) will give generously to make this event a huge success! Donations open to everyone so to help us raise our £1,000+ target, all we ask from you is a suggested 2p per mile, per sponsor. Sponsorship is building up nicely, and the group is off out this weekend to complete a final 40m training session, before the big day on Fri!!
As main donators, can we say a big thankyou to Sunderland Housing Group for their generous grant of £250.00. This will help towards cycle costs and accomodation, which means we can raise for money for the event. SHG and Aspire work within the local community providing grants of upto £500 for local projects.
In addition, a special mention goes to those that have donated items – Aldi Stores , Tesco Morrison’s , Edinboro Cycles and Tyne Cycles . Without their help, this C2C would not be possible. Apologies to those we have missed off.
